Presented at E3 2015, Oculus Touch is the future motion recognition interface to the Rift Oculus VR. These two "rings" topped with a stick should allow extensive interaction in the virtual environment, including, in particular, the precise positioning of the fingers in space. In its announcement, the company had said that the product would be available " shortly after the Rift ," and in any case during the first quarter 2016, the same launch window than the helmet.
Oculus VR, however, issued a recent post on his blog, announcing that the Oculus Touch was not quite ready and go out therefore during the second half of 2016. The US company says will improve the design, the ergonomics and the recognition accuracy of the fingers. Pre-orders for the attachment will be opened a few months before the release, while many prototypes will be sent to developers in the coming months, so that they take full advantage.
If, at first, the new appears infuriating, the Oculus VR approach remains very healthy. The firm could indeed have released a Oculus Touch "incomplete" along the Rift and propose to board at the cash a few months later with an improved version of the product. From the beginning, Oculus VR has a clear objective to offer a virtual reality quality to the public, well aware that an unpleasant experience can literally kill the market within months. Hopefully the products that will be available for all in the next 12 months will be sufficiently advanced for the market takes off.
